FAQ's

How does Jazzway work?

Jazzway is a ticketed venue. All tickets and steaming passes are purchased online. No tickets are sold at the door. Once you arrive and doors open, you will be checked in by a greeter and you can take your seat. Seating is first come first serve. But the venue is small so there are no bad seats.

When is Jazzway open? What are Jazzway’s hours and when do the doors open?

Jazzway is a series that holds 6 concerts per year from September through December and from March through June.  Concerts take place on Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm. But occasionally we will schedule a concert on a Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm to accommodate a touring artist.   For 8:00 pm shows, doors open at 7:00 pm. For 4:00 pm shows, doors open at  3:00 pm.

-How many seats does Jazzway have?

The performance space seats about 65 people, with some additional seating on the side

-What equipment does Jazzway have?

The Jazzway listening space has a complete sound system, a 6-ft Baldwin Grand piano and a Gretch jazz drum kit.

There is also a sound and recording engineer at each concert  and all concerts are recorded. Starting in December 2023, we will also have a videographer at each concert and concerts will be streamed and archived.

-How much are tickets and what do they include?

Tickets vary from $45 to $100 (for fundraisers or special events).  All tickets include complimentary coffee and soft drinks, an after dessert, cheese and fruit buffet, entry into a merchandise raffle and a chance to mingle with the artists. Jazzway also obtains a one-day liquor license for each concert and patrons may purchase beer, wine and cocktails at very reasonable prices from the bar.

-How do streaming passes work?

“Once the Live Stream Streaming Pass is purchased, customers will receive a link via email on the day of the performance within 30 minutes of show time that streams live. The following day, an updated link will be sent out of the recorded show that customers will have access to for 1 week.

-Where do I park?

There is parking in our circular driveway for about 8-10 vehicles and there is plentiful street parking on our side of Hollins Ave.

-How are artists selected?

Bookings are made through the recommendations of a selection committee.  The selection committee looks for artists with a strong and identifiable point of view; the quality of the music; the uniqueness or innovativeness of the artist; the popularity or following of the artist (i.e. can they bring in an audience) and sometimes the meaningfulness of their regional sound or local performing history. We think that jazz is not just about the past and its foundation, but about where jazz is headed in the future. Each artist should be willing to actively market themselves and their events. We hope to announce the dates and artists for the entire 6-concert season in January of each year.

-Can I sponsor or contribute towards presenting a show or shows?

We welcome opportunities to increase sponsorships and gain contributors. This helps us to bring in important touring acts. We have a consistent following at Jazzway and a strong, identifiable brand.

-Are there plans to expand?

Our longer term goal is to present about 6 concerts a year at Jazzway 6004 and branch out to several other larger capacity venues and/or festivals to present more frequent concerts with larger bands and more touring acts. If you represent a larger venue that is interested in working with us, please e-mail Marianne at m2katz@comcast.net

-How to stay informed about our events

We promote our events on public event calendars, radio, social media and through our email list. You can also find our events on websites such as the Baltimore Jazz Alliance www.baltimorejazz.com, DC Jazz www.dcjazz.com , the AllAboutJazz email service “Jazz Near You”,  announcements on radio - usually WEAA and WYPR and through the Social Media platforms Facebook and Instagram.

The best way to stay informed is to join our e-mail list.  Our concerts often sell out quickly, so to get direct monthly announcements about our jazz events, go to the home page where it says: "Join the e-mail list". Type in your e-mail address and hit the "JOIN" button next to it. We will not share any of your information with others.
