Jay Clayton www.jayclayton.com
Jay Clayton is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, composer, and educator. In 1963 she began her career performing the standards on the vibrant New York music scene. However, her collaborations with vocal trailblazers of the day, Bobby McFerrin, Ursula Dudziak and Norma Winstone earned her a prominent place within the free jazz movement. Her body of work, which covers standards, originals, poetry and electronic music, spans the terrain between jazz and new music. She has appeared at major venues including Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Sweet Basil, Jazz Standard, and Jazz Alley. She currently teaches at The New School in NYC and at The Peabody Institute in Baltimore.
Sheila Jordan www.sheilajordanjazz.com
Sheila Jordan has been hailed by Scott Yanow in the All Music Guide as “one of the most consistently creative of all jazz singers.†She is a superb scat singer and the New York Times raves. “Her ballad performances are simply beyond the emotional and expressive capabilities of most other vocalists.†Starting with her 1962 debut Blue Note recording Portrait of Sheila, Jordan was strongly influenced by Charlie Parker and the bebop period. She has become an iconic jazz figure, influencing many other artists in the jazz vocal genre. She was presented the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Award for her lifetime of service to jazz, at the Kennedy Center in May 2008.
