Pianist Lafayette Gilchrist is without doubt one of the most singular talents to emerge on the Baltimore Jazz scene in recent ears. Tonight he is joined by the legendary South African drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo . This exclusive US concert is their first ever performance and will be recorded for future CD release. This event is a concert only  no food will be served. Tickets /$20 Students/$15 Louis Moholo-Moholo was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He was a charter member of the Blue Notes and later Brotherhood of Breath. .His associations with legendary artists Dudu Pukwana, Mongezi Feza, Chris McGregor, and Johnny Dyani produced stunning results. In order to escape persecution under the brutal South African apartheid regime, The Blue Notes went into exile in England in the mid 1960s. The music scene was knocked sideways with their stimulating rhythms and songs, which influenced the jazz and improvised music scene in Europe that was also establishing its own identity at this time. Over the past three decades Moholo-Moholo has performed and recorded extensively with most   of the major artists European Jazz scene. Moholo-Moholo is now living back in South Africa but continues to collaborate with artists worldwide. Thereâs good reason why jazz fans and critics alike are so excited about Lafayette Gilchrist. The young Baltimore-based pianist hit the scene hard with his debut, The Music According To Lafayette Gilchrist, and went straight to earning raves for his sophomore release, Towards The Shining Path. Emerging from jazz legend David Murrayâs Black Saint Quartet, a group in which he still plays to this day, Gilchrist has an approach and presence thatâs drawn comparisons to royalty such as Andrew Hill and Sun Ra. Gilchrist is now in great demand as a solo artist and collaborator worldwide. Due to his touring schedule his local concerts are increasingly rare. Do not miss this opportunity to witness this exclusive duo performance, destined to be be a highlight of the 2010 Baltimore music calendar. Ticket link: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/93975
