Sunday, May 22nd   5 PM : Blake Meister Pre-recording Session                   with Gary Thomas-saxophone, Marc Copland-piano, Ralph Peterson-drums, and Paul Bollenback-guitar On May 22nd bassist Blake Meister, a mainstay sideman in the area, leads his own group featuring an all-star cast of some of the world’s finest musicians, including Gary Thomas on saxophone, Marc Copland on piano, Paul Bollenback on guitar and Ralph Peterson on drums – all bandleaders in their own right.  Blake has written an original suite of pieces for the group, comprised of some of the most distinct musical voices of our time, to accentuate their unique sound.  The music betrays his Philadelphia upbringing with the jazz and blues traditions, but fuses these with the lyricism and forth spinning phrases of his classical training, driving rhythms of Eastern folk music, and colorful harmonic structures of the m-base and other modern jazz movements.  The music looks forward to the future, while paying homage to the great history and tradition that has made jazz an essential part of America and our culture.   Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness these extraordinary musicians for one night only in Baltimore.
